This painting features rock hill, steeply rising rock, jungle tree, temple, mountains hazy, vast river surface, landscape running far off. All elements combine very naturally, no sense of procrastination. The rocks was painted like with coarse big ax, with strength in ink rendering. Towers and houses painted in layers, with no artificiality. Although landscape and figures were handled in simplified way, a variety of dynamic interaction appear vividly on the paper.
Author introduction: Xia GUI, painter of the Southern Song dynasty. Born in Qian Tang (now Zhejiang Hangzhou). His painting features profound composition, simple ink line, steep and refreshing sense, ax-like line style.
